“Ko Asau”…. Whose Voice?
Among the engulfed Water
Brhma explored the Voice.
But nothing segregated…
Then introspected the Verse
And, by understanding the meaning
Made his penance , made Him view
“Vaikunta”… The Lord’s Abode.

ത്രൈലോക്യജീവാത്മകം
യോഭൂത് സ്ഫീതരജോവികാരവികസ-
ന്നാനാസിസൃക്ഷാരസഃ
O Deva, Of the fourteen worlds, You manifested
As Universe
And apparited as Brhma in Satyaloka
All only by Thy Wish.
Later Learned Ones named Him , Hiranyagarbha,
The soul of three worlds…
Later by the upsurge of Rajas , He
Aspired multitudinous Creation.

സമ്പശ്യമാനസ്വയം
ബോധം ഘല്വനവാപ്യ വിശ്വവിഷയം

താവത് ത്വം ജഗദാംപതേ തപതപേ-
ത്യേവം ഹി വൈഹായസീം
വാണീമേനമശിശ്രവ ശ്രുതിസുഖാം
കുർവ്വംസ്തപഃപ്രേരണാം
O Jagathampati, though Brhma engaged on multitudinous,
Due Ignoramus on wisdom of whole by Self
Revocated.
Then You evoked Him to Create
And galvanised Him
To do the ascetic Penance,
With Your blissful disembodied Voice
“Tapa…Tapa…”

O' Humane, Thy Waist is Animal Kingdom;
Foot Nails were animals like elephants , camels and horses
Thy Movement is Time; and Your Face, Arms, Thighs and Feet
Resembles the four Castes, begin with Brahmins…

വീര്യം മഹാസുരഗണോസ്ഥികുലാനി ശൈലാഃ
നാഡ്യ സരിത്സമുദയസ്തരവശ്ച രോമ

O’ Discus Wielder, the repetitious Samsara is Your Activity
Thy valour being the hoard of Asuras;
Your nerves are the rivers; bones are mountains; soft hair being trees;
O’ Lord, Your Cosmic Body remains subtle…

ദേവാ ഭുജാഃ സ്തനയുഗം തവ ധർമ്മദേവഃ
O' Eesha, Your smile is Maya.
Breath is wind and tongue is water.
Thy speech is en masse birds, tunes being Siddhans,
Your mouth is fire, arms as deities and breasts being Dharmadeva.

പൃഷ്ഠന്ത്വധർമ്മ ഇഹ ദേവ മനഃ സുധാംശു-
രവ്യക്തമേവ ഹൃദയാംബുജമംബുജാക്ഷ
കുക്ഷി സമുദ്രനിവഹാ വസനം തു സന്ധ്യേ
ശേഫ പ്രജാപതിരസൌ വൃഷണൌ ച മിത്രഃ
O' Ambujaksha, Your Back is Adarma,
Mind is moon and Your lotus heart Avyakta.
Thy Abdomen is ocean, garments being the Sandhyas,
Your genital is Prajapati and testicles being Mitra.

പ്യന്യൈർനിബദ്ധവപുഷേ ഭഗവൻ നമസ്തേ.
O Bhagavan, Thy neck Maharloka and face Janaloka;
Thy forehead Tapoloka and head Satyaloka;
With else entities, You embodied the Universe
Obeisance for worldly form.

ച്ഛന്ദാംസി കേശവ ഖനാസ്തവ കേശപാശാഃ
ഉല്ലാസി ചില്ലിയുഗളം ദ്രുഹിണസ്യ ഗേഹം
പക്ഷ്മാണി രാത്രിദിവസൌ സവിതാ ച നേത്രേ.
O Lord, You are the cause of Universe,
The Vedas being Your Brahmarandhra;
Your hairlock as Clouds and eyebrows, abode of Brahma
Thy eyes as Sun and eyelashes as Day and Night…

Your eye blink is the Creation of World.
Ears as Quarters; Nasal orifices as Aswinis,
Your lower lip is Greed and Upper lip is Modest;
Your teeth being the Stars and fangs as Yama

You manifested as fourteen worlds
Patala being Your feet’s lower surface;
Rasatala- the upper one, and Mahatala ankles

കിഞ്ചോരുഭാഗയുഗളം വിതലാതലേ ദ്വേ
ക്ഷോണീതലം ജഘനമംബരമംഗ നാഭിർ-
വക്ഷശ്ച ശക്രനിലയസ്തവ ചക്രപാണേ
O’ Cakrapani, Your shins shines as Talatala;
Knees as Sutala, Buttocks as Vitala and Atala
Earth as Your hip, naval as Sky; and
Your chest as Swarga, the residence of Indra.

ഏതേ ഭൂതഗണാസ്തഥേന്ദ്രിയഗണാ
ദേവാശ്ച ജാതാഃ പൃഥങ്
നോ ശേകുർഭുവനാണ്ഡനിർമിതിവിധൌ
ദേവൈരമീഭിസ്തദാ
ത്വം നനാവിധസൂക്തിഭിർനുതഗണ-
സ്തത്ത്വാന്യമൂന്യാവിശം-
ശ്ചേഷ്ടാശക്തിമുദീര്യ താനി ഘടയൻ
ഹൈരണ്യമണ്ഡം വ്യധാഃ.
When, these organs, elements and Deities
Though existed, though unaware,
Praised Thee by various Hymns
And sought Your help,
You entered into these
Activated by Self,
Creates a Cosmic Egg, the essence of whole.
Thy excellence thus manifested.

അണ്ഡം തത് ഖലു പൂർവ്വസൃഷ്ടസലിലേ
തിഷ്ഠത് സഹസ്രം സമാ
നിർഭിന്ദന്നകൃഥാശ്ചതുർദശജഗ-
ദ്രൂപം വിരാഡാഹ്വയം
സാഹസ്രൈഃ കരപാദമൂർധനിവഹൈർ-
നിശ്ശേഷജീവാത്മകോ
നിർഭാതോസി മരുത്പുരാധിപ സ മാം
ത്രായസ്വ സർവാമയാത്.
The Cosmic Egg subsisted in the Cosmic Ocean
For a long period,
Later segregated the same into fourteen worlds,
Virat , which named later.
By countless means, of hands, legs, and heads,
Thou manifested Thyself….!!
Thy Cosmic Form……

ഭൂമൻ, മാനസബുദ്ധ്യഹങ്കൃതിമിള-
ച്ചിത്താഖ്യവൃത്ത്യന്വിതം
തച്ചാന്തഃകരണം വിഭോ തവ ബലാത്
സത്ത്വാംശ ഏവാസൃജത്
ജാതസ്തൈജസതോ ദശേന്ദ്രിയഗണ-
സ്തത്താമസാംശാത് പുന-
സ്തന്മാത്രം നഭസോ മരുത്പുരപതേ
ശബ്ദോജനി ത്വദ്ബലാത്.
O Bhooman, only Thy Power
Vaikarika being the aspect of Sattva alone
Creates Anthakaranas , with its four modes;
“Mind, Intellect, Ego and Chitta”.
Taijasa, the aspect of Rajas, creates the ten Organs
Five of them Knowledge based, and else of Actions…
Later Sound originated, as the essence of Sky

Sky from Sound, then Touch, then Air,
From Air to Shape, then Fire, then Taste,
From Taste to Water, then Smell then Earth…..
Essence of subtle, created later.
Thus from Thamas, the aspect of Ahankara
Micros brought out, with their specialities
With preceding relations, Elements thus arranged.
O Madhava, Your indulged Creation.

സോഹം ച ത്രിഗുണക്രമാത് ത്രിവിധതാ-
മാസാദ്യ വൈകാരികോ
ഭൂയസ്തൈജസതാമസാവിതി ഭവ-

ദേവാനിന്ദ്രിയമാനിനോകൃത ദിശാ-
വാതാർക്കപാശ്യശ്വിനോ
വഹ്നീന്ദ്രാച്യുതമിത്രകാൻ വിധുവിധി-
ശ്രീരുദ്രശാരീരകാൻ
Ahankara, by virtue of Gunas
Diversified as Trio, in its order
Vaikarika, Rajasa and Tamasa.
Preponderated by Satva, Vaikarika contrived
Deities of ten organs
Dik, Vayu, Aaditya, Varuna, Aashwinas, Agni
Indra, Upendra, Mitra, Prajapati.
Deities presiding Mind, Intellect, Ego and Chitta,
Derived Moon, Brahma, Rudra and Kshetrajna

ഏവം ച ദ്വിപരാർധകാലവിഗതാ-
വീക്ഷാം സിസൃക്ഷാത്മികാം
ബിഭ്രാണേ ത്വയി ചുക്ഷുഭേ ത്രിഭുവനീ-
ഭാവായ മായാ സ്വയം
മായാതഃ ഖലു കാലശക്തിരഖിലാ-
ദൃഷ്ടം സ്വഭാവോപി ച
പ്രാദുർഭൂയ ഗുണാൻ വികാസ്യ വിദധു-
സ്തസ്യാഃ സഹായക്രിയാം
Thus, after two Parardhams
You express the creative will,
Maya gets activated; and
Begets the three Worlds.
Later emerges the Power of Time
And Adrushtam and temperament.
The Gunas get differentiated
And assists Maya.

മായാസന്നിഹിതോപ്രവിഷ്ടവപുഷാ
സാക്ഷീതി ഗീതോ ഭവാൻ
ഭേദൈസ്താം പ്രതിബിംബിതോ വിവി-
ശിവാൻ ജീവോപി നൈവാപരഃ
കാലാദിപ്രതിബോധിതാഥ ഭവതാ
സഞ്ചോദിതാ ച സ്വയം
മായാ സാ ഖലു ബുദ്ധിതത്ത്വമസൃജദ്-
യോസൌ മഹാനുച്യതേ
Abides in Maya, but not merged
Thy thereby called Sakshi, the eternal witness…
You reflected by Maya, with all diverse
And is called Jiva, You being All, no else....
Maya, then agitated by the Epoch;
All by Your direction,
Devise Intelligence
Which also renowned as Mahan.

തത്രാസൌ ത്രിഗുണാത്മകോപി ച മഹാൻ
സത്ത്വപ്രധാനഃ സ്വയം
ജീവേസ്മിൻ ഖലു നിർവികല്പമഹ-

ചക്രേസ്മിൻ സവികല്പബോധകമഹം-
തത്ത്വം മഹാൻ ഖല്വസൌ
സംപുഷ്ടം ത്രിഗുണൈസ്തമോതിബഹുലം
വിഷ്ണോ ഭവത്പ്രേരണാത്.
O Vishnu, it is your inspire
The Mahan though composed of Trio
Dominated by Sattva, generates a perception
The concept of I, the extract of Nirvikalpa
Later Mahan
Eclipsed by Tamas, procreates Ahankara,
The extract of Savikalpa.
Your wish creates all…

വ്യക്താവ്യക്തമിദം ന കിഞ്ചിദഭവത്
പ്രാക് പ്രാകൃതപ്രക്ഷയേ
മായായാം ഗുണസാമ്യരുദ്ധവികൃതൌ
ത്വയ്യാഗതായാം ലയം
നോ മൃത്യുശ്ചതദാമൃതം ച സമഭൂ-
ന്നാഹ്നോ ന രാത്രേഃ സ്ഥിതി-
സ്തത്രൈകസ്ത്വമശിഷ്യഥാഃ കില
പരാനന്ദപ്രകാശാത്മനാ.
Amid Prakruta Pralaya, Your annihilation Period
There exists nothing, gross or subtle.
The three Gunas, Sattva, Rajas and Tamas
Equiposed and leaned on You.
There remained no death, nor liberation
No Day, nor Night
Only Thou dwells, with
Bliss and Consciousness as Your Form…!!

വിശ്വം ച കാര്യം വിഭോ
ചില്ലീലാരതിമേയുഷി ത്വയി തദാ

തേഷാം നൈവ വദന്ത്യസത്ത്വമയി
ഭോഃ ശക്ത്യാത്മനാ തിഷ്ഠതാം
നോചേത് കിം ഗഗനപ്രസൂനസദൃശാം
ഭൂയോ ഭവേത് സംഭവഃ
O Lord, in annihilation
Every else, even Time, Karma and Jiva
The Gunas, micros and macros
Submerged in You as Your jest…
Their status, not get vanished….
For if it was so,
Like a Flower in the sky, an illusion…
Then, how they remerge , after deluge?

അർച്ചിരാദിഗതിമീദൃശീം വ്രജൻ
വിച്യുതിം ന ഭജതേ ജഗത്പതേ
സച്ചിദാത്മക! ഭവത്ഗുണോദയാ-
നുച്ചരന്തമനിലേശ! പാഹി മാം.
O Lord of Universe! Your devotees
In the path of Light, remains Birthless.
Though I’m Your devotee, enchants Thy virtue
O Guruvayurappa, please bless me…..

തസ്യ ച ക്ഷിതിപയോമഹോനില-
ദ്യോമഹത്പ്രകൃതിസപ്തകാവൃതി
തത്തദാത്മകതയാ വിശൻ സുഖീ
യാചിതേ പദമനാവൃതം വിഭോ
Yogi realize identity with Your seven spathes
Earth, Water, Fire, Air
Ether, Maha-Tattva and Prakrti; and
Later attains sheathless Thy abode

തത്ര വാ തവ പദേഥവാ വസൻ
പ്രാകൃതപ്രളയ ഏതി മുക്തതാം
സ്വേച്ഛയാ ഖലു പുരാ വിമുച്യതേ
സംവിഭിദ്യ ജഗദണ്ഡമോജസാ
Yogi resides in Brahmaloka or else among Thy Feet
Attains liberated
From the embodied existence, piercing the cosmic,
At the time of Prakruta Pralaya or by his Yoga power.

അഗ്നിവാസരവളർക്ഷപക്ഷഗൈ-
രുത്തരായണജുഷാ ച ദൈവതൈഃ
പ്രാപിതോ രവിപദം ഭവത്പരോ
മോദവാൻ ധ്രുവപദാന്തമീയതേ
Aspirants of gradual desire led by the deities
Which presides Fire, Day time and Bright fortnight
In Uttarayana, with enlightened pleasure
Move towards Dhruva in the end.

ആസ്ഥിതോഥ മഹരാലയേ യദാ
ശേഷവക്ത്രദഹനോഷ്മണാർദ്യതേ
ഈയതേ ഭവദുപാശ്രയസ്തദാ
വേധസഃ പദമതഃ പുരൈവ വാ
Further, Jivas move towards Maharloka; and
Stays comfort, there a long epoch.
Later get tormented by AdiShesha, or by his own will
Enter Brahmaloka, the land of wisdom

ലിംഗദേഹമപി സന്ത്യജന്നഥോ
ലീയതേ ത്വയി പരേ നിരാഗ്രഹഃ
ഊർദ്ധ്വലോകകുതുകീ തു മൂർദ്ധതഃ
സാർധമേവ കരണൈർന്നിരീയതേ
Desireless Yogis controls their breath; and
Abandons their subtle nature, gets liberated.
Those aspires their spiritual realms
Released with micro, piercing his vertex

ത്വത്സമാധി വിജയേ തു യഃ പുനർ-
മങ്ക്ഷു മോക്ഷരസികഃ ക്രമേണ വാ
യോഗവശ്യമനിലം ഷഡാശ്രയൈ-
രുന്നയത്യജ സുഷുമ്നയാ ശനൈഃ
O’ Birthless , by mastering these sacrifices
Of salvation and realizing Samadhi
We liberates our soul, immediately or gradual
By emancipating the breath, through Sushumna

ഇത്ഥമഭ്യസനനിർഭരോല്ലസ-
ത്ത്വത്പരാത്മസുഖകല്പിതോത്സവാഃ
മുക്തഭക്തകുലമൌലിതാം ഗതാഃ

These spiritual practices
Exults us in joy of consciousness
And move like Narada and Suka,
Your great devotees….

We attains Consciousness, the ecstatic, Samadhi
And when misses this transcendence
Dharana frames You encored.

Being the roots, rules and postures,
By strict and disciplined practice
We secure Your credence.

To attain Your lotus feet

O Varada, You bestower of bliss...
Mourning on woes and bemoaning on fate,

सान्द्रानन्दावबोधात्मकमनुपमितम् कालदेशावधिभ्यां निर्मुक्तं नित्यमुक्तं निगमशतसहस्रेण निर्भास्यमानम्।
अस्पष्टं दृष्टमात्रे पुनरुरुपुरुषार्त्थात्मकम् ब्रह्मतत्त्वं तत्तावत् भाति साक्षात् गुरुपवनपुरे हन्त भाग्यं जनानाम्।।
സാന്ദ്രാനന്ദാവബോധാത്മകമനുപമിതം കാലദേശാവധിഭ്യാം
നിർമുക്തം നിത്യമുക്തം നിഗമശതസഹസ്രേണ നിർഭാസ്യമാനം।
അസ്പഷ്ടം ദൃഷ്ടമാത്രേ പുനരുരുപുരുഷാർത്ഥാത്മകം ബ്രഹ്മതത്ത്വം
തത്താവത് ഭാതി സാക്ഷാത് ഗുരുപവനപുരേ ഹന്ത ഭാഗ്യം ജനാനാം।।
ഇടമുറിയാത്ത ആനന്ദവും ജ്ഞാനവും ആകുന്ന സ്വരൂപത്തോടുകൂടിയതും ഉപമിക്കാനാകാത്തതും കാലത്തിനും ദേശത്തിനും അതീതമായതും നിത്യമുക്തവും അനേകം ശ്രുതികളാൽ വ്യക്തമാക്കപ്പെടുന്നതും അസ്പഷ്ടവും ഒന്നു കണ്ടാൽത്തന്നെ അതൊരു വലിയ പുരുഷാർത്ഥമാകുന്ന ബ്രഹ്മം എന്ന പരമാർത്ഥ വസ്തു ഗുരുവായൂരിൽ ഇപ്പോൾ പ്രത്യക്ഷമായി വിളങ്ങുന്നു. ആളുകളുടെ ഭാഗ്യം....

Narayana bhattathirippadu, being an adducer of Meemamsa and Vyakarana of Sanskrit Literature, wrote various subjects. His most accepted and induced works are Prakriya Sarvaswam and Narayaneeyam. Other, supposed to be, his works are Aashwalayana Kriyakrama, Svahasudhakaram, Dhatukavyam, Matsyavataram, Rajasooyam, Ashtami Chambu, Dutavakyam, Subhadraharanam, Panchaliswayamvaram, Sripada Sapthati etc…
Narayaneeyam, his main and most accepted renowned work was written as a Bhakti Kavyam. Bhattathirippadu accepted rheumatism, a disease affecting to the movement of body from his Guru Achyuta Pisharody in the form of Guru Dakshina….. created the Poem Narayaneeyam, 10 Slokams per day, named Dasakams to get rid of the disease. Even though it as a plea towards Lord Guruvayurappan to get rid of the rheumatism, the work was accepted a lot for its Grammar, Poetical Style, Synonyms and Structure. Narayaneeyam was completed on 27 Nov 1587, and got completely cured from the disease. It is supposed that he accepted the boon Karunyam from the Lord Guruvayurappan who appeared before him on the completion of the Kavyam Narayaneeyam and by the same he got rid of the disease.
Being a savorier of Narayaneeyam I am hereby trying to have a description on the same, with respect to my knowledge.
I planned to go through every slokam from next week. One slokam per week. A Bhageeratha Prayatnam…. Big endorse ….. A concupiscence of my own…..

Narayana Bhattathirippad was a born scholor. He was supposed to be born in the year 1560 in Melpathur Family in the banks of Bharathapuzha, near Tirunavaya. His father was a pandit, Mathrudattan Bhattathiripad.
Heartfiled Rigveda from Madhava, Tarkka Sastra (science of debate) from Damodara and Vyakarana (grammer) from Achyuta Pisharody. The later was renowned as his Guru. He married Achyuta Pisharody`s neice and settled in Trikkandiyur, near Tirunavaya. It is believed that there was three sons for his father, his younger brother also named Matrudattan who had copied the classic poem Narayaneeyam from the manuscripts. His family Melpathur is now merged with Maravancheri Thekkedathu. Bhattathiripadu was one of the last mathematicians of the Sagamagrama school founded by Madhava.

The classic poetry about the Lord Narayana by the great Sanskrit grammatical poet Narayana Bhattathiripad almost condenses the great purana Shrimad Bhagavatam. He remain renowned in the name of his house Melpathur. Even though it was written about the year 1586, it seems to have enter into the critic world only on the 18th century. In this poem, with his extraordinary literary merit, his devotional fervour towards the lord Guruvayurappan, he verbiages towards the lord in 1035 shlokas. Dividing the poetry into 100 dashakams, condensing the 18000 shlokas of Bhagavatam, his solemn prayer supplicates for "aayurarogyasoukhyam"..... i.e. life, health and convenience.
Now we can start an open discussion about the poem and poet, which had done by millions.......
