Penance of Brhma and Lord’s Apparition

Slokam 1

ഏവം ദേവ ചതുർദ്ദശാത്മകജഗ-

ദ്രൂപേണ ജാതഃ പുന-

സ്തസ്യോർദ്ധ്വം ഖലു സത്യലോകനിലയേ

ജാതോസി ധാതാ സ്വയം

യം ശംസന്തി ഹിരണ്യഗർഭമഖില-

ത്രൈലോക്യജീവാത്മകം

യോഭൂത് സ്ഫീതരജോവികാരവികസ-

ന്നാനാസിസൃക്ഷാരസഃ

O Deva, Of the fourteen worlds, You manifested

As Universe

And apparited as Brhma in Satyaloka

All only by Thy Wish.

Later Learned Ones named Him , Hiranyagarbha,

The soul of three worlds…

Later by the upsurge of Rajas , He

Aspired multitudinous Creation. 

Slokam 2

സോയം വിശ്വവിസർഗ്ഗദത്തഹൃദയഃ

സമ്പശ്യമാനസ്വയം

ബോധം ഘല്വനവാപ്യ വിശ്വവിഷയം

ചന്താകുലസ്തസ്ഥിവാൻ

താവത് ത്വം ജഗദാംപതേ തപതപേ-

ത്യേവം ഹി വൈഹായസീം

വാണീമേനമശിശ്രവ ശ്രുതിസുഖാം

കുർവ്വംസ്തപഃപ്രേരണാം

O Jagathampati, though Brhma engaged on multitudinous,

Due Ignoramus on wisdom of whole by Self

Revocated.

Then You evoked Him to Create

And galvanised Him

To do the ascetic Penance,

With Your blissful disembodied Voice

“Tapa…Tapa…”

ഈദൃഗ്ജഗന്മയവപുസ്തവ കർമ്മഭാജാം

കർമ്മാവസാനസമയേ സ്മരണീയമാഹുഃ

തസ്യാന്തരാത്മവപുഷേ വിമലാത്മനേ തേ

വാതാലയാധിപ! നമോസ്തു നിരുന്ധി രോഗാൻ.

Karma Yogis meditates Thy Form

As Virat, at the end of their actions.

My devout salutations on Thy Cosmic Form

O’ Guruvayurappa, efface my ails……

ശ്രോണിസ്ഥലം നഖഗണാഃ പദയോർനഖാസ്തേ

ഹസ്ത്യുഷ്ട്രസൈന്ധവമുഖാ ഗമനന്തു കാലഃ

വിപ്രാദിവർണ്ണഭവനം വദനാബ്ജബാഹു-

ചാരൂരുയുഗ്മചരണം കരുണാംബുധേ തേ.

O' Humane, Thy Waist is Animal Kingdom;

Foot Nails were animals like elephants , camels and horses

Thy Movement is Time; and Your Face, Arms, Thighs and Feet

Resembles the four Castes, begin with Brahmins…

സംസാരചക്രമയി ചക്രധര ക്രിയാസ്തേ

വീര്യം മഹാസുരഗണോസ്ഥികുലാനി ശൈലാഃ

നാഡ്യ സരിത്സമുദയസ്തരവശ്ച രോമ

ജീയാദിദം വപുരനിർവചനീയമീശ.

O’ Discus Wielder, the repetitious Samsara is Your Activity

Thy valour being the hoard of Asuras;

Your nerves are the rivers; bones are mountains; soft hair being trees;

O’ Lord, Your Cosmic Body remains subtle…
